ONLINE SHOW  January 2026

Trees

Trees are the constant companion when you live in the Northeast. And when I travel away from home, I miss the trees the most.

They bear beauty in every season. Remarkable beauty. Stark, strong, silent citadels of entangled boughs in the winter and lush rustling wavelike canopies in spring, summer and fall

And these amazing beings are now thought to communicate through their vast underground network and even care for one another when in distress.
My heart breaks when some of these grand ladies and gentlemen are cut down in my neighborhood. That which as witnessed generations of births, deaths, human comings and goings are simply removed in a matter of hours.
They are protectors, they feed us, they feed  wildlife, they provide oxygen and remove carbon dioxide, they are our planetary lungs and we forget how interconnected we are with these magnificent living beings.
I hope my camera has done them justice as they go about their silent and profound business of sustaining life while giving us a spellbinding and generous gift of majestic beauty, daily comfort and lifelong companionship.

Video "How Trees Respond to Love"

When I am Among the Trees

- Mary Oliver

When I am among the trees,

especially the willows and the honey locust,

equally beech, the oaks and the pines,

they give off such hints of gladness.

I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,

in which I have goodness, and discernment,

and never hurry through the world

but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves

and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,

“and you too have come

into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled

with light, and to shine.”
