"The Fosters" is a photo essay celebrating the amazing men and women who open their homes and hearts to the dogs who are abandoned, unwanted, abused or just simply left behind through death or other life changes. I have such admiration for their courage and dedication to the welfare of these  vulnerable castoffs. 
   
      As a photographer, I want to capture the soul of this gift which is the love and affection brought to both the rescue and the rescuer.  Also to pay homage the rescue organizations  and volunteer staff who help facilitate these amazing relationships. Having fostered only two dogs, I know the dedication and sacrifice it can take.

     But for the ones who foster, the dogs themselves are the reward. They are so resilient and have what seems to be a boundless and stunning capacity to move through trauma. They respond unabashedly  to kindness and care and head steadily into healing and trust.  And ultimately, into their forever homes.
